Health and wellness had been in the periphery of my life since I was young. My mom was the “granola” mom making organic cookies with carob and honey. I had to go to grandma’s house to get the lowdown on sugary snacks and soda that could rot my teeth and take me into sugar coma bliss-dom beyond my wildest imagination. My father was a chiropractor and nutritionist. I was surrounded by great health advice and support. Awesome, right?
Well, none of it mattered until I broke my neck and my life changed forever. Before that fateful day, I cruised health food stores with swagger because I liked the idea of “organic” and bright-colored reusable water bottles. That didn’t stop me from secretly opening a box of Deluxe Mac’n Cheese just to satisfy the junk food hedonist part of me. Grandma’s girl! I was your casual health nut on the outside that never thought much about the greater implication of healthy food and lifestyle. I was only dabbling in health consciousness at best. After my near-fatal auto accident 2012, my life became a nightmare of surgery (I have a cervical fusion), pain meds, monthly doctor visits that always ended with more questions than answers. When six months had passed and my bones had healed, I was left with chronic pain, stiffness, soreness, fatigue, brain fog. The doctors were ambivalent and conflicted in their evaluations of my condition. Muscle dystonia and fibromyalgia were the final diagnoses. Botox and muscle relaxants were on the menu as was unemployment, desperation, fear and depression.

And so my darkest hour became my gift! |
And so my darkest hour became my gift! In my own discovery of healing, I found so many others who were searching for the same way out of pain. People that had become discouraged or disillusioned with the medical system and wanted to take back their health were coming out of the woodwork and into my life. I realized that I was among SO MANY individuals who were seeking the same guidance and support with their health concerns… We (and yes, I mean YOU too) are a TRIBE of self-healing, self-seeking dynamos!

I began using my healing experience in my yoga teaching practice working with clients battling addiction, depression, anxiety, and chronic pain. But one practice like yoga can’t reach the depths and breadths of self-healing for everyone. This is when I became a health coach. Through the amazing curriculum at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, I have fine-tuned and expanded my understanding of healthy lifestyle and my ability to share that knowledge with others. I’ve studied over 100 dietary theories and been in audience of the most forward-thinking experts in the fields of mindfulness, holistic and alternative health, nutrition, mind-body connection, and more.
